For the last four years, AMANDLA has been providing services to young people in residential care in the Western Cape, South Africa, using football as a tool to educate children. The organisation aims to support participants in their development to become young leaders and role models in their communities, who will in turn influence their peers in a positive way. AMANDLA organises seven regular football leagues in the Western Cape, which serve as the instrument to implement the programmes of their educational work. The organisation works in close partnerships with 33 residential childcare facilities, drug rehabilitation centres and youth prisons, reaching out to more than 2500 children on a weekly basis.
