Play Soccer is organising the 10th edition of its Global Peace Games for Children and Youth, which is set to take place worldwide on or around 21 September, United Nations International Day of Peace.
Founded in 2001, the Global Peace Games is an annual event that takes place at the grassroots level in communities in all parts of the world, through the initiative of civil society. The Games are locally planned and financed community events that feature friendly football or other sports matches alongside educational, musical, artistic and cultural activities, all linked by the common themes of non-violence, human development and United Nations for peace.
Developing young people through sport
Each year the Global Peace Games seek to develop the leadership skills and individual responsibility of children and youth, and to help them learn how through sport and ordinary daily life actions and decisions, they can make the world a better place for all. They are aimed to coordinate civil society to show solidarity in support of peaceful solutions, non-violence and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for human development.
Any organisation that wishes to become part of the Global Peace Games is invited to join and should contact Play Soccer, who provides the leadership in initiating and organising this global event. To see the international scale and diversity of last year’s event, read the report here.
