Ser Paz fosters a culture of peace among young Ecuadorians. Its target group includes young people from broken homes, school dropouts, HIV sufferers and young people affected by unemployment, violence, alcohol and drugs.
The organisation offers training and dialogue sessions and uses football to promote peaceful coexistence amongst rival gangs. Its Paz Urbana (“Urban Peace”) football tournaments unite around 600 young participants from several gangs, enabling gang members to compete in a non-violent atmosphere and minimising street clashes. The tournaments follow rules that promote peace, tolerance and non-violence. Past tournaments have resulted in gang members surrendering their weapons to the authorities.
