Over a quarter of the 40 million people worldwide who are living with HIV/AIDS are aged 15-24. Many streetfootballworld network members, especially in African nations, are using football to help local communities fight the spread of this disease: to teach young people how to avoid infection, to help them get tested, to support them in dealing with the realities of HIV/AIDS and to encourage behaviour change.

Its WhizzKids United programme aims at behaviour change by offering three levels of support for young people: giving them a reason to change, making that change possible, and helping them translate their new attitude into an old habit.

The 'Test your team' experience

Hundreds of children from schools in Lesotho take part in each of streetfootballworld network member Kick4Life’s Test your Team events. Though the main feature is a football tournament, HIV testing and counselling is available in tents alongside the pitches, and between the games Kick4Life coaches hold activities designed to teach young people about HIV/AIDS.
